We finally had to close the windows and close off the vents to stem the smell.
Each night we were inundated with the strong smell of marijuana, rising up through the floor vents and through our windows. Our cabin sat directly above where some of the staff are now housed. During our recent stay we discovered it was under new management. We have been staying at Valhalla since the late 1970's and have always enjoyed the fresh air and location. Truly sad to have to write this but you have lost a regular customer and I hope others pay attention to this review. Danette Barrett (the owner) does not care about this property. There are hundreds of other places to stay at in estes park. When you're paying 200$ a night and no hot water trust me, IT'S NOT WORTH IT. Several parts of cabin were dirty/broken. Middle of winter below zero temperature to single digit temps with no hot water is unacceptable and she didn't seem to care. Took multiple attempts to reach her stating that "she's too busy with investors". The owner was standoffish, rude, and not what estes park is all about. In addition, there was trash left from the previous occupants (beer chug, empty liquor bottles scattered among the property).

This problem continued for 3 full nights until they decided to move us to a smaller cabin with less amenities and no view. The first night we got there the water heater was not working so we had no hot water. Have been a regular customer with Valhalla for years now and ever since the new owner came in a year ago the quality has gone done substantially. Would consider it twice before paying over $200 a night here.

The owner finally called us after we got back home but was dismissive and didn't particularly seem concerned about her guests' experience, questioning why my husband and I needed a big cabin for only two of us, commenting that we got an upgrade without being charged "because the one we moved you to is $10 more a night" even though the cabin is smaller, less private, and has no views, and ultimately dismissing our experience because "we got enjoyment of the full cabin" even though the hot water didn't work and was a major inconvenience, plus the inconvenience of having to move to a new cabin. Other things we dealt with was broken blinds, trash, no fans in rooms, and a coffee maker that didn't work (in first), and then bugs or droppings on the mattress for the pull out couch in the second cabin. We switched to the new cabin in the morning for two nights, but the new one was overall smaller and did not have the view or privacy for which we paid for. However we did not have hot water for another 3 nights, at which point they offered to switch our cabin (in the middle of the night while the roads were icy as it had been snowing all day). We called their after hours line and the maintenance guy came and "fixed" it. However the first day of our stay the water did not heat up. We booked the cabin we did because of the location and views.
The new owner just doesn't care like the previous ones did. We have stayed at this resort several times, but this was by far our worst experience here and we will sadly not be back.
